FAQs

How do I choose a hat size?

I highly recommend that you measure your head with a flexible tape measure.  Measure the circumference of your head from your forehead, right above your ears and around the back. Or you can watch the video below that walks your through the process.

Locate your size using the chart below. If after measuring your head you find that your measurement is exactly what is listed below (i.e. you measure 22 inches and a smallish is also 22 inches), your hat will fit snugly. If you prefer a bit more space, you can move up one size. Email me with any questions.

Why does my leather have marks on it?

The leather hides that are primarily used are vegetable tanned leathers that may have some scars and brands.  Although there aren't many, these marks add character and help make your made-to-order items unique.

What is a vegetable tanned (veg tan) leather?

There are two major ways of processing leather: vegetable tanned or chromium tanned.

Vegetable tanned leathers use natural tannins to process the leather and may take up to two months to complete. The original fibers of the hide are preserved resulting in a unique look that may contain scars or brands. Vegetable tanned leathers will develop a beautiful patina and will soften as they age. When you think about the "woody smell of leather," that smell typically comes from a veg tan. This leather can be laser engraved.

Chromium tanned leather uses harsh chemicals that are not environmentally friendly to quickly process leather. This results in a less expensive and soft leather that cannot be laser engraved.
